Prune your fruit trees for better fruit.

Winter fruit tree pruning can improve overall health and appearance and can increase fruit production.  This class discusses pruning tools, basic cuts, which branches to remove and how to stimulate fruit production.

Instructor Lee Harrison-Smith is an ISA-certified arborist who grew up among fruit trees and gardens in the Skagit Valley.  He owns First Leaf Tree Care in Seattle.

This class is part of the Second Sunday Series of fruit tree classes, a collaboration between City People’s Garden Store and City Fruit.  Call City People’s at 206-324-0737 to register.

I have been recommended by the Snohomish Fruit Society, as I would like to contact someone in the Redmond area who could prune a Columnar and a 5 varietal apple tree for me. I am very loath to do this myself as from previous experience at a different location “Water Spouts” had to be removed every year, and I do not wish this to happen with newly fruited trees. Payment of course. Thank you. David .

Hi David, we refer tree owners to the pruners below who are experienced in fruit tree maintenance. You will need to negotiate the price with each person. Rita Smith even gives a discount to City Fruit members, so if you’re not a member already you can join now and receive that benefit!

      Rita Smith (Seattle) ritasmith7@comcast.net
Bill Wanless, brooke/wanless gardens (west Seattle) gardens@drizzle.com
      Ingela Wanerstrand (north Seattle) ingelamw@gmail.com
Don Ricks (north of Bothel) donricks@hotmail.com

You can also contact Plant Amnesty’s referral service and indicate that you want someone familiar with fruit trees.

      Hope this helps!
