Too many apples on Meridian’s historic trees
We need helpers to collect fallen apples at Meridian Playground. This is a bumper crop year for fruit, and the apple trees, planted soon after the Good Shepherd Center was built, are suffering under the weight of the apples. We will pick up apples that have fallen to tidy up this very active public playground. We will also remove apples from branches that are especially stressed and let them fall to the ground for pickup. These apples are not ripe so are not suitable for fresh eating, but could be used in cooking. Volunteers are permitted to take apples for their own use.
Gloves and some containers will be provided. Please bring cardboard boxes and or large plastic buckets to donate for collecting fruit.
Meet near the restroom by the playground and basketball court. Look for ladders and City Fruit Work Party sandwich board.
