This class provides an overview of the major pests affecting fruit in the Pacific Northwest – namely scab and other fungal diseases, apple maggot fly and codling moth. A variety of non-toxic approaches to keeping fruit trees healthy and productive will be presented.
About the instructor:
As lead orchard steward for the Burke-Gilman Trail and avid lay fruit grower, Barb Burrill combines hands-on knowledge of pest management techniques with many years’ experience in using them. Barb grew up on an orchard in Eastern Washington, has an MBA in information systems and business, recently worked for WSU Climate Friendly Farming Program, and is a community leader on environmental issues.
Focus on Fruit is a series of monthly fruit tree care classes sponsored by the West Seattle Nursery and Garden Center and City Fruit. Class size is limited. Pre-register to reserve your spot by calling West Seattle Nursery at 206-935-9276. Classes are held outdoors, so dress for the weather.
