Late summer is a great time to prune fruit trees: some say the best time. Trees are beginning to go dormant, so pruning doesn’t stimulate new growth. Ingela Wanerstrand is owner of Green Darner Garden Design, teaches a class on growing fruit with the Edmonds Community College horticulture program, and has more than fifteen years’ experience growing and pruning fruit trees.
Focus on Fruit is a series of monthly fruit tree care classes sponsored by the West Seattle Nursery and Garden Center and City Fruit. Class size is limited. Pre-register to reserve your spot by calling West Seattle Nursery at 206-935-9276. Classes are held outdoors, so dress for the weather.
